Women in Tunisia are now free to marry non-Muslims. The county is viewed as one of the most progressive Arab countries in terms of women's right.
Tunisia which is 99% Muslim, banned women from marrying non-Muslims. Previously, a non-Muslim man who wished to marry a Tunisia woman had to convert to Islam and submits his certificate of conversion as proof.
The new development in the county was made known by the spokesman for the president, Beji Caid Essebsi. He made the announcement and also congratulated the women on gaining "freedom to choose one's spouse".
According to BBC, many Tunisians sees the removal of the marriage restrictions as another landmark in guaranteeing women's freedom in the country.
