National Universities Commission (NUC) yesterday visited the Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi State to ascertain its readiness in terms of academic, human and infrastructural resources, to kick-start post-graduate studies and college of medicine in the 2017/ 2018 academic session.
Welcoming the Resource Verification Team to the University, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba noted that it was the desire of the institution to grow and be better than the older Universities, adding that the verification visit would help in making the dream possible.
He maintained that the University is going to ensure strict compliance to the National Universities Commission’s set standard in all its academic programmes, expressing his gratitude to the team for finding time to be in the University for the purpose of resource verification in the areas of post-graduate studies and college of medicine.
“We shall cooperate with you and do our bid. We are optimistic that at the end we shall all be smiling”, the Vice Chancellor concluded.
Speaking on the rationale for their visit, the leader of the team, Bar. Samuel Adejoh stated that they were in the University as part of their mandate to ensure quality in the University system, adding that they would be fair and firm in their assessment.
Apart from the College of Medicine and post-graduate programmes in Physiology, Statistics and Computer Science the team also verified resources in the undergraduate programmes of Geology, and Religion and Cultural Studies.
At the end of the verification exercise, the team praised the University for putting in place the needed resources to kick-start the programmes while also tasking the institution on some areas that needed to be improved on in order to meet national academic standard.
