Unknown Disease Claims Life of Eight Students in Katsina

Government Science Secondary School, Kurfi, Katsina State, has been shut after an unknown epidemic claimed the lives of eight pupils of the institution.

A lawmaker representing Kurfi constituency at the Katsina House of Assembly, Kabir Lawal, made the revelation on the floor of the House on Monday under matters of urgent public importance.

He, however, did not provide further details that led to the death of the students.

“The epidemic has forced authorities of the school to shut down the school and send pupils back home,” he added.

Garba Useini, representing Kafur Constituency, and Bishir Mamnan, representing Dutsinma Constituency, who claimed that the epidemic affected their constituencies as well, said they could not give the number of casualties.

The House faulted the state Science and Technical Education Board for closing down the college and sending the pupils home, saying the act was capable of spreading the disease.

The Speaker, Abubakar Kusada, directed the House committees on education and health to “conduct a thorough investigation” into the incident and report back to the House.
